The best explanation of what AI is was that "it approximates good". In areas where I'm competent it's very easy to see it's not good. Where I'm not competent I'm impressed because it does what I can't and it works, but the moment I gain competence the same thing surfaces again.
With rare exception, ideas really are trivial compared to execution. For example, the idea of going to the Moon is simple, but ACTUALLY going to the Moon is staggeringly difficult.
