Living in the current era is like waking up at midnight and seeing an AI-training script running on your screen. The epoch hasn't even reached one, and the loss is still high. Not long after that, you go to sleep again, either forcefully or voluntarily.
I see the world that way. Humanity is just not ready to explore the galaxy, let alone the universe. Our civilization may have developed rapidly, but our body and mind are still the same.
Our ancestors and we are not so different. We still have our survival instinct, just like them. Our physical and mental aspects are still optimized to survive in the wilderness, not to endure a long-term journey in the vast cosmos.
Sometimes, I feel jealous of those who will be born eons ahead, where humanity (or post-humanity) is more ready for a big leap. Nevertheless, after the second thought, there is no guarantee that we will ever land our first step on the Kardashev ladder.
With that being said, let us pretend that today is the most amazing era, and we were lucky just because we happened to awake at the perfect time. There is no reason to not appreciate it—and there is no reason to deny it.
