🤯 Dave McCabe from Facebook just dropped a major new state-management library for React. It's called Recoil Check it out here 👉 recoiljs.org
I haven't read this book and I'm sure it's awesome - which I part of why I've never understood why industry royalty rates are so terrible. Fullstack D3 author made $50k+ since last April. Fullstack Vue made $20k opening weekend (royalties, not revenue), Node $10k+ last month /1
If you’ve ever wondered how much an author of a pretty decent selling technical book might get paid, here you go. This was for a period of 3 months minus some money I was already forwarded. Not getting rich off of royalties, but the experience as a whole has been priceless.
Anyone out there trying to teach their kids to program? What resources do you use? Any good, comprehensive curriculums out there?
🎣 For the absolute React beginner, I think learning Hooks first is harder than learning class components first. Agree or disagree?
if you're looking to treat yourself (or a friend) today, check out the @newline sale: Up to 50% off 📖 individual books 📗📘 book bundles 📚📕📙and the whole 12-book library Some really great books in this sale, including D3 & Data Visualization🙆♀️ newline.co/@eigenjoy/blac…

What language do you want to learn next?
I was excited to be super productive during this plane ride but here we are 😅 fixed the code highlights so they only scroll on click, and.. mimicked the Aurora Borealis in the header wattenberger.com/blog/react-and…
although there are plenty of posts on how to use React Hooks, I've noticed myself doing a larger mindset shift and want to write about it I'm creating a side-by-side layout to make before/after comparisons super clear. Are the colored stripes (left) helpful to mark each change?
🦊 Today we're launching "Your First 30 Days of Web Development" - It's a free introduction to making heads or tails of web development in 30 delightful lessons It's for the absolute beginner who wants to get started in webdev 👇 newline.co/30-days-of-web…
1/30 This month marks 10 years since I started my journey as a web developer. When I graduated in 2008 — the perfectly wrong time to graduate because the US economy was in the beginnings of a horrible recession — it took me a year before I found a job.
🎙What programming podcasts do you listen to?
Not to brag, but @Wattenberger, author of Fullstack d3 and Data Visualization, drew the candidates in our Election Dashboard by hand. 🎨😮✨ currents.parsely.com/election fullstack.io/fullstack-d3
Currently building an example CLI. It's coming along nicely thanks to great modules like npm.im/yargs, npm.im/prompts, and npm.im/chalk. I'm particularly fond of automatic login/retry for product editing.
Facebook is giving control of React to a single benevolent dictator for life, but thankfully they give you a vote. Your vote for React BDFL is:
A demon appears and he’s going to delete a huge part of your code, but he gives you a choice. Would you rather: Rewrite your npm dependencies from scratch (no reinstall) OR Rewrite your CSS from scratch
