3 week watercolor and ink painting adventure up in the Sierra Nevadas mountains outside of Bridgeport. Beautiful deep canyons, granite walls, sparkling waterfalls and ancient Bristlecone pines…loved painting up in the cool weather and fresh air.
Teaching plein air/urbansketching watercolor & mixed media workshop out at Oaxaca, Mexico in August 2026! Beautiful painting lessons at Spanish cathedrals, colorful neighborhoods & pre-Columbian temples. Take a look and hope to see you there.
A few artifacts from a 3 week wander and paint trip to Kauai, Hawaiian Islands. Beautiful place (do I even have to say that?) with waterfall hike and hundreds of miles of greens. Gouache in sketchbooks. I need to Jack those algorithms up so please hit that thumbs up button.
Got to move those rookie numbers up the scoreboard because I’ll be teaching a couple of workshops in Mexico and perhaps the Cotswolds in Britain. Here are a few lush and green plein air paintings gouache from Kauai. Hope you dig them folks.
Went on a 8 day/100 mile whitewater rafting trip down the Colorado River/Cataract Canyon and had some time to do some paint up and sketches in pencil, watercolor & ink. Please send me some algorithm love and I’ll post some more….gotta punch up those rookie numbers.
Spent a month out in the Escalante Staircase exploring and doing a lot of painting and sketching. Capped it off with a week long whitewater our raft trip down Cataract Canyon & the Colorado River. Saw some interesting stuff. More on my Instagram @garygeraths… shameless plug.
More painting up in the Eastern Sierra Nevada. Wandering from desert foothills up the Toulumne Meadows all the while looking for cool stuff to paint with gouache. I’m starting to post more stuff so do me a big favor and hit that “follow” button. I’ll make it worth your while!
Was up in the eastern Sierras Nevada mountains wandering up and down steam beds and mountain trails luging around my painting gear and slopping gouache paint onto panels. Had a great time.

Me & the wife went to Morocco for 5 weeks to sketch & paint. Traveled 3 thousand miles, looped around the country through desert, mountains & pine forests. Managed to get some scribbles & finger painting done. Had a grand time. Pencil& gouache in 4 full Etchr sketchbooks
There a couple of Air Museums out here at Chino AirPort, California. I wander around and sketch and paint stuff. I got an MFA in abstract painting…what the hell am I doing this for? Ok…it’s fun and challenging. Pencil and gouache.
