Why blockchain? - this a hardware problem of stable storage - we need storage media and formats that survive thousands of years and format standards that stay stable for a long time. I still have notepads from 1980’s but cannot read the old computer media I have.
Many of us in technology have long felt uneasy with the impermanence of digital artifacts. You can still go back and read Einstein’s notebooks. What about the scientists working today keeping their notes in a word doc? Blockchain’s ability to remedy this is under appreciated.
