Sorry to say, @sama, but you have become your own punchline. September: There aren’t enough chips; we are bottlenecked. We gonna have to make tough choices, cancer vs education. October: We make porn and slop, because that’s where the money is.

"Influencers" and "founders" keep screaming that all the best ppl use agents to 10x their work. Yet, when we see what the best ppl themselves actually experience when they write non-trivial software it often looks like this. LLM's are high value, but don't drink the koolaid.

Interesting experience from @karpathy on this new LLM training repo.

As useful as many #Python #datascience libraries are, it drives me nuts how absolutely terrible they are. Worsened the fact that Python lacked type annotations for way too long. I may become religious just to pray to God that the DS community starts emphasizing coding skills.

This is why companies are pushing vibe code nonsense hard. The absurd monthly expense of non-technical vibes is (loosely) justifying @sama’s fancy ride. fortune.com/2025/09/19/zuc…

If you aim to have an impact on humanity as a SWE, get involved in FOSS. You'll prob make money as a side effect of competence. If you aim to make a lot of money, adopt the moniker "founder" and convince yourself it's okay to make a living duping people. Then cope. GL

> AI is writing most of our code > We are looking for experienced engineers Interesting tacit admission here

Hearing from a lot of good founders that AI tools are writing most of their code now. Software engineers orchestrate the AI. They are also finding it extremely hard to hire because most experienced engineers have their heads in the sand and refuse to learn the latest tools.

Reminder to the #ai hype train. “Experienced” devs felt 20% faster w AI and on average were 19% slower in a recent study. I use LLMs regularly and value them. But the impact of LSP’s, good text editors, modern langs are likely more high value than LLMs. arxiv.org/abs/2507.09089

Finally, a take I can agree with.

AI will never replace developers. It will replace those who were never actually thinking while coding.

LMAO. This is an ingenious method of getting people to do free work on your behalf. It seems like a step up (down?) compared to those exploitative "bug bounty" charades that big businesses dupe the young and the hopeful into giving free labor for what they describe as contests.

if you ever want to stress test your website against bad actors, just loudly announce on the internet that you coded the whole thing with gpt5 sottaku users kept doing their flashcards none the wiser to multiple failed pentests and attacks

Few question using an LLM for a productivity boost, despite marginal gains even under optimistic @Google projections. Many think you’re nuts if you go all in on @Neovim and @hyprland, but the productivity boost is bigger and it sharpens, rather than dulls, your skills.

This says a lot about the vibe coding craze. The masses of non-technical managers and entrepreneurial hopefuls vastly outnumber SWE’s. They are vulnerable to absurd promises. Reminds me of those folks shilling day trading on YouTube as a get rich quick scheme.

It is not plausible that your designers couldn't design an experts-only feature that novices wouldn't "inadvertently" use, @amanda_lango. If your intention is to force everyone to have a Microsoft account for your own internal business reasons, have the integrity to say so.

AMDs decision to stop open sourcing their libraries made developers angry. Now that they accidentally leaked the FSR4 source, they should make it open source again to regain the developer goodwill. We don't want AMD to become Nvidia. Open source is good. tomshardware.com/pc-components/…
