I wanted to buy forests to keep it out of the hands of destructive industries, but it was too hard and too expensive – so I decided to make it easy and affordable! Now anyone can get their own Square of Australian rainforest, from as little as $50. squarebysquare.org

During our seed round in 2020, an investor laughed when I was pitching, called Gamma "the worst idea I've ever heard," and hung up mid-call. We've now raised at a $2.1bn valuation. This is the story and every fundraising lesson I learned:

Many years ago at a Cape Town #geekdinner I gave a talk about buttons vs dials - using microwave ovens as an example: Do you really need a "Baked Potato" button? Dials are simpler, more accessible and have 'state'. So why did we start using buttons everywhere?

Which is Better? A, B or C 🤔

Kudos to @AnthropicAI for a killer registry of Claude use cases. If you're struggling for inspiration for what to do with an LLM (any LLM) this is a great set of scenarios to sift through. claude.com/resources/use-…

We applied for @ycombinator this week and I think we have a fair chance to get in! But even if we don't, the process itself helped us to get crystal clear on our strategy. Aaand we got to have fun making videos:

We used to have Cisco WebEx, which was built to share PowerPoint decks online, while everyone dialled into a teleconf bridge. Zoom was built by former WebEx engineers. Which is why you get asked if you'd like to join an internet meeting using internet audio... 🤦‍♂️

Just clicked 10 links to join a Zoom call Someone needs to build a better video chat product

We (myself and @emelyjunker ) recently built a new map interface for SquareBySquare using @Lovable - I'm blown away how much has become possible using AI coding tools! See map.squarebysquare.org

I often wonder if influential YouTubers get different versions of ChatGPT from the rest of us. I don’t want to code a Rubik’s Cube, I want to AI to do my taxes and stay on top of my emails.

Psyho beat @OpenAI in one of the world's most challenging coding competitions. I wonder if the challenge included removing a photo background without changing my headshot to look like I'm Pedro Pascal...

Update: I'm alive and well The results are official now and my lead over AI increased from 5.5% to 9.5%😎 Honestly, the hype feels kind of bizarre. Never expected so many people would be interested in programming contests. Guess this means I should drop in here more often👀

I’ve had solar for a month now and the real surprise is how often my panels have to shut down when the batteries are full. Assuming then, countrywide, is a shit load of solar energy being wasted cos it can’t go back to the grid.

The answer to inflation is mandatory savings. Interest rate hikes punish middle-income Australians, particularly those who JUST got into the property market. Savings will go into your back pocket, rather than the bank's already bloated coffers.

The late stage CEO role is deeply misunderstood by founders. That’s why you see founder CEOs “solving problems” with engineers, “obsessing over product”, or compulsively reorganizing their company. Unfortunately there’s only a tiny contingent of people who can guide you.

What happens when you ask an AI to generate "Human Evolution." This is terrifying.
