It's disappointing that the UK Media chose to make the Oulton tragedy headline news, once again only highlighting the dangerous side of bike racing. Too often, the only publicity our sport gets is bad publicity. It was awful but some balance would also be good. RIP Owen and Shane
What does 2 hours sleep, 2 nights in a row, give? It gives the chance to ask colleagues why there's only you in the weekly Wednesday meeting. ...on Thursday. My head is swimming, so I don't expect to provide constructive input to any of the meetings I have today.
Every once in a while, an ego-stroking memory pops up on your timeline. Today was one such time, as I'm reminded that people did actually enjoy my work. #WellChuffed
Got a message from the widow of a racing friend today, thanking me for his birthday tribute. Got me a bit choked, if I'm honest. Our sport is very exciting but some of us can also pay the highest price. God rest, Dan.
Had an epiphany and withdrew from a pending job interview. My current job is all right, really and working from home? Priceless. What other job would allow me time to see Mum or deal with family issues with no notice? With retirement so close, I'm grateful for what I have.
Today marks the 5th anniversary of the death of my friend Dan Thomas. Dan joined the Rookie Minitwins with me but was way, way better. Always supportive, he provided so much solid advice. Dan died in a freak racing incident on his 43rd birthday at Brands. We miss him greatly.
I got a new van mirror, after a branch destroyed the original. Sadly, the fixings have all rusted so getting the broken housing off will be a challenge.
The new ignition barrel, petrol cap and seat lock set for my bike arrived this week. What are the chances that I spend zero hours fitting them this Bank Holiday weekend?
I work as agency engineering staff. My project is gearing up in Cologne but, as agency, I can't get a work visa, as I'm classed as a "transient worker". So, I'll need to find another job if I can no longer fulfil my obligations. #BloodyBrexit
Walking the dogs tonight, I was taken by how much the wind through the trees sounded like waves crashing onto a beach. We live about 3 miles in from the coast but this sound was both soothing and reassuring. Just me, Murphy, Pepper and a breeze. #AllVeryHappy
As I'm not racing again this year, I am at least continuing my support for the @BemseeOfficial Rookie Minitwin class with a book and cash spot prize at all the 2024 rounds. Thanks to the club for allowing my involvement and to class rep Kevin who will act as judge.

In the continuing search for my late father's Model 18 AJS, let's look at this as a last-gasp attempt to ask anyone if they know of AJB 45B? DVLA shows it to still exist. I last saw it in August 1976, when Dad part-exed it in Faversham, Kent. A dull bike but his last British one.
At the @BemseeOfficial opening round at Brands Hatch, I chatted with a fellow spectator before we went our respective ways. I never got his name but this week, a delivery arrived for me from him, which will fill some pleasant evenings. Thanks to @Spalders for his generosity.
Pleased to report that all riders involved in the horrific pile up this afternoon at Brands are expected to make full recoveries. Brilliant work by the @BemseeOfficial medics and marshals with the invaluable support of @airambulancekss who got one off to hospital.
Almost immediately after I put up my last post, the meeting was halted for what looks like a very bad accident on the approach to Graham Hill bend. Hoping the riders involved come out all right but there are screens around them, which is never a good sign.
Another great day's racing at Brands with @BemseeOfficial, where it was great to catch up with my MT friends. I'd also like to apologise to @Spalders for not recognizing him (and to thank him for accepting a copy of my book).
