One of the greatest crimes a fast food place can commit against me (and I think we can all agree this is important in the grand scheme of things) is give me diet coke instead of coke

Absolutely masterful interview on Gaza of Dominique De Villepin, former Prime Minister of France, who famously led France's opposition to the Iraq war and who, IMHO is the best diplomat the West has produced in decades. This is so important, so incredibly well argued, that I…

"Not kilotons, but megatons" — but what's a 1-ton bomb like? How about 100 lbs? Do you grok a 1-pound firework? Beyond a certain threshold, it's all abstracted far from day-to-day experience, and we lose touch. Same problem as properly grasping millionaire vs. billionaire. 2/

Just got a robocall that started with "Notice from the Chinese consulate in the United States" followed by a message in Chinese. Is this just spam in another language, or does the Chinese government robocall "their" people in other countries?

Being a billionaire must be insane. You can buy new teeth, new skin. All your chairs cost 20,000 dollars and weigh 2,000 pounds. Your life is just a series of your own preferences. In terms of cognitive impairment it's probably like being kicked in the head by a horse every day

Got this scammy looking letter from "Berkheimer Tax Innovations" telling me I owed them money, but after investigation it's legit. That's how Pottstown PA collects some per capita taxes. Seems like it would be good to inform new residents somehow.

Seems like the "ship immigrants from red places to blue places" trend energizes the base for regional politicians from both parties, so kind of some perverse incentives for it to continue

Just saw someone on mastodon joking about how discovery shouldn't have "buying HBO money" which is funny and also another occasion for reciting my mantra, "this wouldn't be such an issue if we had worker cooperatives"
