I have a new story out in Oyster River Pages. It's about Crown Vics and the Everglades and exotic finches and life as a ghost. You can also hear me read an excerpt, if you're into that sort of thing. 🔗 in reply

the amazing part is the wailing and gnashing of teeth you get when you announce an assignment of this length. and if you assign more than 10 pp. of reading you'll get treated like you gave one week to read war and peace

The Homeland Security posting makes me so mad and also makes me feel so useless. The whole idea of America is the melting pot!! That’s what has the capacity to make me feel patriotic, that’s what I am proud of

This is a winnable fight.

I agree that the president wants this. Democrats need to be clear that all these immigration fights are about the rule of law, our constitution, and our rights. Whatever the fight is, you can be sure the fight is really about that.

Sorry but some novels surely do take years to write

LLMs are bad but the worst kind of artists are the ones who perform "process." Daniel Day Lewis disappearing to vacation resorts in Bora Bora or the Amalfi Coast and calling it "method." No novel takes years to write. Time is a marketing tool. It's a way to cultivate mystique.

fun fact: we do. it’s generational and, to an extent, regional. (or for irony reasons. or to make well-meaning non-indig people uncomfortable lmao.)

well for one no indigenous person calls themselves “indian” so u guys sound crazy

The Mamdani post was simply an acknowledgment that she had not pulled through as hoped for, which makes “passing” appropriate. Cuomo is a hate monger who is exploiting the death of a servicemember to fuel his pathetic grudge on behalf of his loser brother.

Devastated? Sarah did not "pass" ...she was murdered. And there is only one reason to write a passive response like this. This is not about prejudice vs muslims...it is about calling out extremism. He should have stayed quiet...like the rest of the far left

Her eyes were a striking blue, like blue Gatorade, and her cheeks were flushed, like red Gatorade. Her demeanor was mysterious, yet refreshing, like yellow Gatorade. And her dress was the hue of orange Gatorade

“Why do people hate AI?” People don’t hate AI as a technology. They hate this version of it. They hate the blatantly exploitative setup where tech companies control everything and we have to beg to live in our own world. Where the only jobs we get are whatever ones big tech…
