A sureshot way to unhappiness is to expect your friends to "provide" for you in ways you provide for them. When we are younger our friendships are equitable. Give a secret, keep a secret. They cover for you, you cover back. They waste 2 hours on the phone & you waste it with them

The biggest secret of influencing people is to make it their idea, not yours. This appears to take slightly more time than pushing your idea & asking them for their feedback. And it takes a lot more skill with asking great questions. But it creates fantastic buy-in. Just magic.

“Fake it till you make it” commonly gets doled out and is happily accepted as great career advice and even life advice. Let’s examine it though: - You are on a plane. Cool if your pilot is faking it till they make it? - You need to file your taxes. Are you happy if your…

To understand why layoffs are happening at Big Tech, it's not enough to understand if a company is profitable. Microsoft's profits (net income) for 2022 was at $72B: this is above the *revenue* it had every year before 2012. Layoffs have to do with shareholder's expectations:

I often run into PMs working at big companies coping with — “My team is really small. We operate like a startup inside a big company.” Bro, you’re literally working @ Microsoft. Even a bad product has 0 acquisition cost & millions of users! You are tripping on some good shit 😂

Employee A is a solid performer and asks for a 10k salary increase. But they're already at the top of the salary band, so it's not possible. So they find a new job that pays them 15k more, and the company ends up spending 40k to hire and train a replacement.

Nicely put!

A lot of people are asking me why I switched from an MNC to an early stage startup. It wasn’t an easy decision, but my perspective of growth & career has changed a lot in the past one year. I want to experience a fast paced learning environment while I have some risk appetite.
