There was once a much bigger vision for our international rail link, that saw sleeper services from across the UK connect directly with HS1 at London for seamless train travel into Europe. For train to compete with plane, there's challenges to overcome👇 bettertransport.org.uk/campaigns/inte…

Cars are money pits. They devour the most valuable resources in cities: space and time. When people walk places, they are easier to entice into shops, more likely to shop locally and have more time and money to spend. It’s also a lot prettier.

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen was filled with cars until a 2 year pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.

Friendly reminder: “A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It's where the rich use public transportation.”

Bus lanes should be for buses. Not taxis. Not "private hire" cars. Buses. Why should someone have the right to pass everyone simply due to the fact that they've paid a driver to drive them as opposed to driving themselves? Why do taxis get preferential treatment?

People treat political violence like it's a tool only used by the radicalized but this isn't true. Every police officer, every soldier, and every eviction notice is political violence. Tainted water in Flint MI is political violence. Homelessness is political violence.

It's very draining arguing about traffic all the time, so in the spirit of reconciliation, can we all at least agree that we should phase out most private car ownership in cities over the next 10-20 years, to be replaced by car clubs?

Some people struggle with the notion of privilege & the whole idea that "to the privileged, equality feels like oppression," often because it's bound up with ethnicity & nationality & tribe. But if you want to see a clean, laboratory example, just take a look at: drivers.

I think a lot of people were expecting the road to genocide would be a sharp turn that they could boldly object to rather than simply a continuation of the policies and ideas they already sign off on.

I never quite understood why taxis are so often allowed to use bus lanes.

The most important thing about this amazing Paris transformation is how fast it happened —how fast people on bikes “appeared” —once streets were transformed. You can’t write this off as “#Paris was always this way,” because it wasn’t. It took leadership.

The most effective way to make cars less dangerous to pedestrians is to reduce their interaction. The next most effective way is to reduce car speed when they do interact. Both of these are best achieved with infrastructure change not flashy tech. bbc.com/news/business-…

How to make cars less dangerous for pedestrians

New rules and tech could make cars safer for vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists.

Net-zero targets are all well and good. But how countries get there matters a lot. It's the area under the curve that matters for warming. Delay emissions cuts and you not only make net-zero less likely, you also make climate change worse along the way.

We are in a weird era of car socialism. We have central planning of towns, business just to form development around cars. We subsidize roads and highways like “public transit”. And once cars are mandated, voters fight for more subsidies … because cars are 10x more expensive

Sunak will use a trip to Scotland to confirm 100 gas & oil licences It takes 5 yrs from a find until oil & gas is produced from a field It takes 6 mnths to build onshore wind farms & the energy is up to 11 times cheaper than oil & gas The solutions are there, the will isn’t.

Remarkable that they can refer to important life activities as a 'dead zone'.

It really upsets bosses when workers have any autonomy and get out from under the corporate boot in any way.
