Next week I'm taking another free WikiEdu course to write articles about the 2024 US Elections. Once a week x 8. Any scholars in history, Amer culture, poli sci, or related fields want to join me? wikiedu.org/courses/the-20…

I’m available to consult to Taylor, Brittany & other celebrities about how to listen (and talk) across political and religious divides. It’s feasible & worthwhile! foxnews.com/sports/taylor-… #FoxNews

Astute point, as I head into a semester with a course that centers the #Talmud as a foundation for Jewish identities and Judaisms

Go read the deeply reported, accurate story the WH is falling over itself trying to lie about. It's full of detail on the alarming plan for Gaza/Saudi/Israel being pushed inside the US gov by Biden aide Brett McGurk & analysis of its flaws + risks involved huffpost.com/entry/biden-sa…

He once asked - why did God create heresy? And said: so that if a poor man asks for help you should have just enough doubt in God to think that if you won't help him, nobody will.

Walking back from synagogue (after sermon on antisemitism*) with other people, i.e., Jews, and somebody drives by screaming at us "Free Palestine" * derashah by Rabbi Dr Joshua Berman, visiting scholar, who rightly encouraged people to notice the broad support for Jews in U.S.

Esp during a crisis, ppl tend to see the world as a stark binary choice, Us vs Them, Good vs Evil Does the tweet below pose a false dichotomy, or the picture of a clear moral choice? Is the #IsraelHamasWar complicated, or does nuanced understanding undercut morality?

Right now there are two claims being made upon the Jewish future, two paths in formation before our eyes. And we’re all going to have to pick one

Why does U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson prominently display a Christian nationalist symbol outside his Capitol Hill office? @TaylorMatthewD and @BradleyOnishi break it down in this @RollingStone article (link below). In this video excerpt from the forthcoming short…

I'm hesitating on social media because of these kinds of criticisms and attacks, from left and right. In religious studies, our work is dedicated to nuance. Don't we want students out of their comfort zones and into understanding a world that is complicated?

Will this be a point of pride and a PR success for these anti-Israel activists? Today: SJP and JVP suspended by Columbia University, over unauthorized demonstrations and their conduct.

NEWS: Columbia University is suspending Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) as official student groups through the end of the fall term. news.columbia.edu/news/statement…

wow! SJP just got suspended at Columbia?

Wow — this suspension is pegged to holding "an unauthorized event Thursday afternoon that proceeded despite warnings and included threatening rhetoric and intimidation."

If you seek incremental change toward #transgender acceptance, you may be content with the new Catholic permit for baptism etc. But gender affirmation surgery is prohibited AFAIK so it's a curious baptism. Would the trans person need to disavow their such surgery as sinful?

Re: The Vatican's new ruling that transgender people can be baptized, serve as godparents and be witnesses to Catholic marriages. In some dioceses, they were prevented from doing so by local pastors. As such, this is an important step forward in the church seeing...

The House just voted to censure @RepRashida Tlaib over, AOT, her use of the slogan #FromTheRiverToTheSea Her speech touched me (H/T @thatpeterfox) esp from about 1:50 Won't the slogan now become more popular, more diffuse in meaning? Can a damnable meaning be legislated?

I am the only Palestinian American serving in Congress, and my perspective is needed here now more than ever. I will not be silenced and I will not let anyone distort my words. I’m from Detroit, where I learned to speak truth to power, even if my voice shakes.

Some of my social media friends say Israel should annex and #OccupyGaza, others say #FromtheRivertotheSea #Palestine Will Be Free. Would you label either as Evil or Enemy? I hope to understand them, their concerns, dreams, points-of-view. It is not the same as justifying them.

This thread, written by lawyer Dennis Kavanagh, clearly lays out the implications of the South Australia Practice Note.
