How/why is @DrAlexMarrero still employed as @dps_k12 superintendent? My latest for @DenverGazette & @colo_politics. Setting forth his record of poor academic achievement, lack of transparency, ineffectiveness, waste of tax dollars, bad policy and more. daily.denvergazette.com/the-denver-gaz…

The continued problems stemming from an ill-conceived discipline matrix in DPS - despite a resounding Board election - are astounding. What has to happen for DPS to hear and respect parents who want to know that their kids are safe? #edcolo cbsnews.com/colorado/news/…

DPS leaders refused to act on an obvious threat: gun possession at school. New Board members have not led to new policies. The discipline matrix directly responsible for East High shooting remains in place. Appalling lack of concern for lives in their care. #edcolo

Unreal. Prior to the DPS Board gutting the discipline matrix, gun possession at school would have been a mandatory expulsion. Instead, days later Austin Lyle shot 2 East High staff. DPS knew for months and said nothing. Shame on them all. #edcolo 9news.com/video/news/loc…

Folks, don’t ignore this. It has been nearly a year. Current policy would allow the same thing to happen today. And the fix is not hard.

My first non-education related post in quite some time. Although perhaps there are parallels. This is day four of our kids bathroom without TP. The kids, ages, 12 and 16, know exactly where we keep extra TP. How many days do you think they will go without bothering to replace it?

Most remarkable reaction to DPS elections is #DCTA’s Rob Gould — whose teacher members have consistently and repeatedly expressed their concerns over school safety, and whose 3 candidates received less than 1/3 of votes — blame “dark money.” As out of touch as the Board #edcolo

Not my preferred candidate and I disagree vehemently with many of his (later) positions, but @KwameSpearman is a smart and capable guy, and I hope he rolls up his sleeves and contributes in a non-elected position. Lord knows there is enough work at DPS to go around. #edcolo

Not one of 3 sitting DPS board members returns. A stunning success for all the families who engaged over the past nine months. @ResignDPS, P-SAG, and many, many others. Loud call for change originating from thousands of small conversations in families across DPS. #edcolo 1/3

The outraged claim that “this is unusual” for a school board election reflects both the age of the candidate and the age of Axios. Welcome to Denver School Board elections new-comers. Been this way for a while. Just stings when the tables are turned I guess.

And, as before, this stuff is deplorably common. Here is the DCTA comparing a Latina daughter of Mexican immigrants to Donald Trump and Betsy Devos. It’s all too normal. DCTA is a main reason why. #edcolo denverpost.com/2017/10/30/mai…

@axios Denver’s claim that charges of racism in DPS election mailings “is not normal for school board races” is only possible if you don’t know how to type “DPS racist election mailings” into Google. Try it @ByJohnFrank #edcolo co.chalkbeat.org/2019/10/17/211…

"We don't feel safe." How is this ok? Our community is hurting. Please don't value silence over safety next week - let's find a board that will govern with education and safety in mind and hold our superintendent accountable. Our kids need us. hubs.la/Q027fpwY0

#DCTA denounce an election mailer as racist? They sure have a short memory. @jessicaseaman #edcolo 2019: “candidates are decrying new political mailers they say erase their Latina identities […] funded by the Denver and Colorado teachers unions.” co.chalkbeat.org/2019/10/17/211…

At first glance, the traditional battle lines appeared to have been drawn in this year’s Denver school board race: reformers vs. candidates backed by the teachers union. But another group is driving conversations around the race: Parents denverpost.com/2023/10/28/den…

NEW: The at-large Denver School Board race has gone negative as a charter school-linked group is labeling @KwameSpearman a "bully." We fact-checked those claims. #copolitics
