Life thrives in water, so today let’s celebrate #WorldWetlandsDay DYK 40% of all species live or breed in wetlands. Hence lakes like this one at #CharlesDarwinReserve play a vital role in the landscape and need to be protected. #WildOz #WetlandsMatter @BushHeritageAus
HAPPY #WorldWetlandsDay! 🌳🌊 Coastal #wetlands help us adapt to #climatechange. They trap+lock atmospheric carbon in the ground🧲, protect coasts from sea level rise & storms🌪️, stop run-off from reaching the ocean, and provide home to millions of birds+fish🐦. @RamsarConv
It’s time to value wetlands! RT to raise awareness today on #WorldWetlandsDay #WetlandBiodiversityMatters for life to thrive.
“#Wetlands are transition zones. They are neither totally dry land nor totally underwater; they have characteristics of both” the “#water can often support trees and other sturdy vegetation” So Sunday’s #WorldWetlandday to learn more visit @NatGeo’s link bit.ly/36tQ9J5
Wetlands are the most economically valuable and are among most biodiverse ecosystems. 40% of all species live or breed in wetlands. Wetlands are disappearing THREE times faster than the forests. 🙁🤷🏻♂️ Today (2nd Feb) is #worldwetlandday @WetlandsInt @RamsarConv
Nothing like a cool dip on a hot day! We’ve been releasing a small, steady flow of water along the Wimmera River to help fish survive during the hot dry conditions. Without water for the environment, sites like Horseshoe Bend near Dimboola would be a lot drier #WimmeraCMA #VEWH

A story, and an important safety lesson: A grad student of mine did a reaction on a small scale many times to work out the procedure. No problems. He then went up to a mole scale, and the reaction blew out of the flask, geysering to the roof of the hood. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Behold the beauty of frost flowers! These delicate ice structures are unique to the surface of newly forming sea ice, forming when moisture in the atmosphere becomes supersaturated due to low temps. Here, Scripps' Jeff Bowman collects frost flowers in the Arctic. 📷Matthias Wietz
