Open-source software for researchers that combines structured note-taking, mind-mapping, management of files (e.g., PDFs) and folders, and reference management

Version 1.19.4 has just been released with a bunch of fixes for bugs found by @Danny_Weltman. Thanks for your help Danny!

Some news: Version 1.18.1 was released today. But more importantly, I have also released a new video demonstrating how to integrate #Hypernomicon with #Zotero and #Mendeley. Check it out! youtube.com/watch?v=uw8Uyl…

Integrating Hypernomicon with Zotero and Mendeley

Version 1.17 has now been released, and with it, importing PDF files has been vastly improved, making importing an existing collection of PDFs that is already being managed by a bibliography manager (like Zotero) much easier.

Version 1.16 is now available. Highlights: * Added button to insert an image when editing a record's description * Web search buttons are now customizable * The application now notifies you on startup if there is a new version available (this can be turned off)

Version 1.15 has now been released, and as promised, it is now possible to integrate your Hypernomicon database with a Mendeley account! Zotero integration has also been improved. I will be making videos that demonstrate Zotero and Mendeley integration in the near future.

I encourage you to check out Hypernomicon and/or get in touch with @RJasonWinning. Also, here is the FAQ: sourceforge.net/p/hypernomicon…. Please feel welcome to get in touch with me regarding how to use this program for #scicomm and in the classroom. -@HardestyPhD

4) This activity would legitimize students' work and allow them to see themselves as future members of a field traditionally closed off to them. #DiversityandInclusion

3) A great assignment would be for a class to create its own curated database using assigned and found texts, AND students' own work. It can be powerful for historically underrepresented students to see their work actually in conversation with published work.

2) Instructors can also collect their students' database files and give formative feedback on their learning process as opposed to only the products of their learning. This allows for early intervention and more personalized feedback.

1) Regarding #highered: students can have difficulty staying engaged in a philosophy class due to how abstract the material can be. Hypernomicon can be a study tool or assignment which enables students to see themselves making connections between concepts and texts.

3) Philosophers could also share curated databases. At the 2016 @SocPhilSciPract meeting, there was talk of making a list of canonical texts for practice-oriented #philsci. Hypernomicon could do this in such a way that it makes philosophy accessible to scientific practitioners.

2) If you, qua member of a field, share your personal database complete with your links between concepts and annotations, you share your field's: standards for evidence, methods of reasoning, disciplinary thinking, and way of "speaking." This is invaluable to newcomers.

1) Regarding #scicomm: One of the challenges to becoming a member of a field is not just acquiring a particular quantity of information, but learning how pieces of information fit together and the debates about their relationships.
