The point of conflict is the least likely place to meet user needs
We've always been wary of signing up for things for 'a long time'. But what constitutes 'a long time' is getting much, much shorter as the world almost abandons analogue.
Working on prioritising User Research. It's led to - "Well, you say you need a User Researcher but this feels more like Business Analyst's work. Let's talk it through." #rightskillsforthejob
Quite the week. Planning in a large scale user research piece with a previous client. More training. A discovery with an existing client and two very different projects for another previous client. We need more people who can do the do!
100% what @tomskitomski says here. There's still a belief that management and leadership are the same thing. They're not.
Just watched From Hull to Heatongrad. @PaulHeatonSolo Brilliant, poignant and very funny. He’s come a long way since playing on Orchard Park !
We're putting together a conference talk - based on a recent piece of work we did in collaboration with a number of support organisations - on why concerned individuals' 'best intentions' can be the biggest blocker to meeting user needs.
The feeling of slight elation after a very, very early start that resulted in some proper insight with users that can be difficult to engage.
So many critical front line services for those with the greatest support, protection and help needs are propped up by volunteers.
The early morning shift with Danny from Manchester's rough sleeper team gave us real insight into front line support for those sleeping on the streets. It also helped us understand that not everything is what it seems. Spend time with your users - there's nothing more important
How many times have you seen rough sleepers at an airport? A lot more than you think. This week we went with the outreach team that covers Heathrow to learn about their needs and those of people sleeping rough there #doingdiscoveryright
Sprint 1/Week 2 | research with central support staff, in day centres and by joining outreach workers on night shifts in Central London. #doingdiscoveryright
We're a few days into this discovery on services that support rough sleepers. The people are committed, the learning curve is steep. Discovering and meeting needs in this context seems more important than ever.
Had a great chat with @ivanka about homelessness, rough sleeping, feeling guilty, the possibilities created by joining things up properly and the value of fierce air cover when you're committed to doing the right thing #FiringUpMondayMornings
Great meeting with Homelesslink this week to start our discovery on the Streetlink service. Great people who really want to make things better.
This week we're beginning a hugely challenging discovery. We'll be working with a major government department, support and emergency services and people sleeping rough to get to the user needs that'll shape an important service.
Pitching for work is all about learning from what didn't go so well. The gold is in the ones that got away.

Proposal writing with Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring courtesy of the Boston Symphony helping me keep calm and focussed.
Good luck to @SimonHurstUX today. The research session he ran at Sense with a deaf blind participant is still near the top of my list of outstanding experiences.
