Happy new year! What kinds of installation tips would you like to see?


For a Windows Installer / MSI custom action written in InstallScript, should return ERROR_INSTALL_FAILURE instead of using "abort".


There's no good way to completely disable Windows Installer / MSI self-repair. You can avoid key files, but the price is too high.


On a custom action, MSI condition «REMOVE="ALL"» means normal uninstallation, «UPGRADINGPRODUCTCODE» means being removed for major upgrade.


Want to specify a minimum MSI version for your installer? No need to create a LaunchCondition: just use «Page Count Summary» in SIS.


For information about why your MSI / Windows Installer product repairs itself on startup, check the event log for «MsiInstaller» events.


MSI actions with sequence numbers -1, -2, -3, -4 are dialogs for normal success exit, user cancel, fatal error exit, and suspended install.
