one day I’ll miss posting into a twitter void much like startups get nostalgic about the early days (plz follow me and buy my product)
smiled after hearing this quote =) We’re in this right now. You and I are in this right now. Write down the experiences you’re having. Write down what you’re thinking. Take pictures. - Phil Knight (the 2 pics in my camera roll since yc)
I get stressed from the idea of too many good ideas. If I'm reading a book, I almost * hope * it doesn't have too many great ideas because I then have to write them all down somewhere.
I don't like how the organization of my ideas stops me from being creative. It's funny – creative ideas are not usable if they're never organized, but trying to organize makes ideas less creative.
There’s no such thing as a free product. If a product is free, chances are YOU are the product. Youtube? Free (but they sell your attention for over 180 billion $$ to advertisers).
Nowadays, in an internet of information overflow, it’s so important to be able to see through the noise. That’s the only way to be creative.
The hallmark of expertise is no longer how much you know. It's how well you synthesize. Information scarcity rewarded knowledge acquisition. Information abundance requires pattern recognition. It's not enough to collect facts. The future belongs to those who connect dots.
There is something to doing challenging physical exercise (ideally in the early morning). It calibrates your autonomic system so that subsequent stressors of life have less of an impact. This is unlikely to be purely psychological. Calibrate your stress threshold. Every day.
Imagine a social media platform where you can scroll through all the content saved by the most respected and influential minds in business, startups, productivity, and more—everything from articles and highlights to podcasts and social media posts. Thoughts on this?
Lasting success in creative design is based on the designer’s ability to do 2 things: 1. Predict the consequences of their decisions (prospective thinking) 2. Predict the audience's response (perspective taking)
Working out is just spaced repetition learning for your muscles. Works like a charm.
If creativity comes from new associations between old stuff, why do all our tools to save stuff suck?
My favorite founder, Patrick Collison, says that he buys a ton of books and reads only the first chapter. Then he leaves them lying around. Takeaway: read broadly and create “pointers” in your brain that can later be used to make creative associations.
Elon Musk’s advice to ambitious people: Try to read a lot of books (read broadly), ingest as much information as you can and develop a good general knowledge.
I want to read more of other people's stuff to get better at my own stuff. Drop a piece you're proud of in the comments ⤵️👇
