What if the questions wasn't "should schools reopen?" What if instead the question was "why have schools become the answer for every problem in society?" childcare, nutrition, health care, mental wellbeing.... Etc And if we are that answer, why are we not funded as such?
At least this time @peterweirmla you weren't breaking the guidelines your own department set. As a P7 teacher I was really disappointed to see you inside a school at a P7 assembly. My P7s would have loved a leavers assembly but, unlike you, we followed your department's rules.
A total lack of understanding in how this visit will impact on all those schools that are following guidelines .
I hope the minister had a lovely day, however very mixed messages here. I thought only key worker children were allowed into school. A lot of schools have not facilitated a send off for P7s because of this guidance. Mixed messages from DE have been the norm throughout lockdown.
The DENI- this morning have thought up ‘summer achools’- yet again another premature announcement- funding not determined! Which children will be allowed this priviledge? So unfair, so poorly thought out. Instead of dreaming up new ideas sort OUT THE ESSENTIALS!!!

Teachers have performed heroically in the most difficult of circumstances, and transition out will involve new demands. Evidence on the stress and mental health challenges for schools during crises applies to teachers as well as students, and support is needed for both.
