ADHD is the specific condition where sending one email feels like climbing Everest, but if a literal emergency happens, I suddenly transform into a calm, highly efficient tactical commander. I cannot function in peace. I was built for the apocalypse.

Chronic illness isn’t just a handful of bad days. It’s a constant baseline of symptoms. Pain, fatigue, immune dysfunction, it never leaves. Some days it screams. Some days it whispers. The truth is we’re always sick, we just get better at masking it on the “less bad” days.

I swear when healthcare people say stuff sometimes my soul just breaks inside and the light in my eyes turns off, and I’m just sinking nodding to myself invisibly that no, no they’re not going to help you either. Such a waste of energy.

Brilliant, just fucking brilliant. Have complex health issues? Half the healthcare profession will tell you you need to keep notes, help yourself & them work things out. A quarter will be insulted at your note taking. And a quarter will use your notes as evidence you’re anxious

Society sees chronic illness and disability as negative, shameful, and something to overcome or defeat. It’s nothing to be ashamed of and can happen to anyone. Oftentimes we can’t overcome it, we just have to learn to live with it in the best way we know how.

2 wks ago, I handed in my GMC licence. A bittersweet decision, One that means I'll never work as a clinical doctor again. I'm tired of the stigma & barriers when you don't fit the mould... Tired of the endless advocacy needed... My skills lie elsewhere now. Time to move on.
