Our recent paper published in @ConBiology shows that supposed surrogates for genetic diversity can actually be pretty rubbish at informing conservation plans. Available as open access: doi.org/10.1111/cobi.1… 1/7
We're looking to add to our bird crew. We've got a PhD position open to team up with the incredible @barbalink and @SafeWingsOtt and tackle #birdwindowcollisions - join us to help #SaveBirds More info: biodiversityconservationsolutions.com/general-5-2 Please share widely! #newPI @CarletonScience
[1/4] I am extremely happy to share our latest paper published in @NatureCommunications: “Priority areas to protect mangroves and maximise ecosystem services”. Here, we show the benefits of incorporating ecosystem services in protected areas design. nature.com/articles/s4146…
Mangroves provide ecosystem services but are threatened by anthropogenic activities. Dabalà et al. show that biodiversity can be protected whilst maximising ecosystem benefits, with little or no increase in the protected area required. nature.com/articles/s4146…
In Bangladesh, 💡Only 5 of the 1097 assessed species are adequately protected 💡~39% of areas need to be protected to conserve all species efficiently doi.org/10.1016/j.onee… @idiv @UQ_CBCS @CellCellPress @OneEarth_CP @UNBiodiversity @protectedplanet @IUCN #KMGBF (1/2)
New paper for ‘ibis.iSDM’ now published in Ecological Informatics. Here I present a new R-package that allows the integration of different datatypes in SDMs. But it can do much more than that... #sdm #biodiversity #conservation doi.org/10.1016/j.ecoi… 👇(1/8)
🚨 New Paper! 🚨 Xiaoli Shen & colleagues show that targeting areas of global significance for #biodiversity #conservation is most efficient, but that the inequitable conservation challenges require cooperation and coordination. cell.com/one-earth/full…
Cool paper by @jeff_o_hanson et al in @JAppliedEcology comparing several approaches to promote connectivity in plans for expanding protected areas (prioritizations). doi.org/10.1111/1365-2… 🗞️#277-2022
[1/5] Late to the party because I was busy proofing the typeset version… but here it is! After ~1.5 years of work, we’ve finally published our research: "A metric-based framework for climate-smart conservation planning" in @ESAApplications doi.org/10.1002/eap.28…

A $2M collaboration w/ @NCC_CNC has spawned a new digital tool...👀 ➡️newsroom.carleton.ca/story/ncc-site… Using AI and algorithms, it takes the guesswork out of the complex conservation process, and it's FREE to use for orgs and gov't agencies involved in conservation.🏞️ #TechForGood
Working on conservation decision tools for @NCC_CNC has been one of the most rewarding tasks of my career. I feel really lucky to be working with the team of Richard Schuster, @LisaMcL_NCC @mmroc1 @jeff_o_hanson @jaimie_vincent and others.

#Antarctic terrestrial #biodiversity is at risk; @JaszzyJas @Iadinec &co show that existing #conservation efforts are insufficient, and that simultaneous global & regional efforts are urgently needed to save #Antarctica for future generations #PLOSBiology plos.io/3WkTS6j
Our @ConversationEDU article summarises our new @PLOSBiology work on how we can best #conserve #Antarctic terrestrial biodiversity into the future! 🐧🇦🇶👩💻 @iadinec @justine_d_shaw Read more here: theconversation.com/antarcticas-em…

Antarctica’s emperor penguins could be extinct by 2100 – and other species may follow if we don’t...
The species at risk include flowering plants, moss and lichens, tough invertebrates and breeding seabirds.
I'll be at #nzes2022 in Dunedin this week! I'm keen to chat with anyone interested in systematic conservation planning, decision science, optimization, or prioritization? I'd be really interested to hear how this stuff is being applied/researched in NZ
For the first time ever, I am hiring!!! Looking forward to working together with a student to model and map current and future invasive plant risk across Canada. Please share widely! 🌱🌷🌿
We are recruiting an MSc student to join our Weston Family Conservation Science Fellowship Program in Sept 2023 to model the spread of invasive plants. Position based at Carleton University w/ @emmajhudgins, @Joe_Ecology and @RicSchuster. Apply: 1.adp.com/HkNcUoXAIhD
