In 2002 I was working in Amazon’s retail division. We were organized by department - books, CDs, electronics, etc - and a separate dept for products sold by 3rd parties. Then Bezos decided 3rd party should appear next to 1st party on the same product page. Here’s what happened:
Interesting workaround for linked images. Drops the image in an a tag in a lightweight .html file. If people link to the image, or pin it, the page gets the link, and then the image gets wrapped in another link - in this case the homepage. Not a great application, but clever!
Everyday I've been telling Twitter "I don't like this ad" and I removed personalization in the settings, so it has smartly stopped serving clickbait type article ads, now pinterest style impulse purchase ads. The lowest common denominator of no personalization (but kinda cool)
