This work was done together with my 🍅 squad teammate @joannaclima . So grateful for our mentors & supervisors Peter Ratcliffe and Julie Adam, and the generous institutional support from @Ludwig_Cancer& @NDMOxford Pic: a tea and cake fuelled Christmas-time brainstorming session!

Happy to share that our paper is now out in @NatureComms! 🥳 We explored why mutations in VHL, a ubiquitously expressed gene, drive cancer almost exclusively in the kidney and found distinct, isoform-specific roles of HIF1A & HIF2A in early oncogenesis🧵 📎nature.com/articles/s4146…

Excited to share our new paper out on @biorxivpreprint We used oncogenic cell tagging🔬🐁to delineate the roles of HIF1 and HIF2 in the earliest events that follow VHL loss in the kidney Our findings show a potential for HIF2 inhibition to stop renal cancer before it starts 😮

HIFalpha isoform specific activities drive cell-type specificity of VHL-associated oncogenesis biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh… #biorxiv_cancer

Such a great experience! 👩🏻‍🔬🚀🇬🇧

Ludwig @UniofOxford's @joannaclima presented research at #AACR24 identifying in mice the early cancerous lesions caused by the loss of a pair of genes—Vhl and Prbm1—whose joint inactivation suffices to initiate a type of renal cancer.

Final day at #AACR24 - As always, a tour de force symposium from Samra @TurajlicLab on 🧬 chromosomal instability, cancer progression & treatment resistance, including some unpublished work from the lab led by @Sanroman_Fern & @stcshepherd.

Great opportunity 🚀

Ludwig @UniofOxford’s @samvid_k & @joannaclima presented @ #AACR24 a study showing HIF1A & 2A, which govern responses to hypoxia, contribute differently to cellular adaptations to loss of the tumor suppressor Vhl in the kidney, an event that drives a type of renal cancer.

We have made some progress! Catch @joannaclima on 9 April at #AACR24 (Abstract 6622) to hear about our work on how PBRM1 deletion affects the behaviour of VHL-null cells! aacrjournals.org/cancerres/arti…

So, what next? Our study has highlighted a delayed pause in proliferation of positively selected PT Class A Vhl-null cells as potential bottleneck towards overt cancer. Knowing the mechanisms of this pause and its release (perhaps by other genetic events) will be exciting! 10/

We have made some progress! Please find me on 8 April at the #AACR24 to discuss our poster (Abstract 3024) dissecting the differential contributions of HIF1A and HIF2A to phenotypes of pre-neoplastic VHL-null cells. aacrjournals.org/cancerres/arti…

Cancers are often born decades before we can see them. We wanted to know what happens in cancer-causing cells during this latent period of oncogenesis 🔍 Our new paper @CR_AACR explores this question for VHL-driven #KidneyCancer! A🧵on what we learnt: 1/ aacrjournals.org/cancerres/arti…

Preach 🙏! With so much focus on technological and clinical applications of research, we must reaffirm that an honest understanding of how life and the world work is in itself a force for good. nature.com/articles/s4155…
