Excited to share our new paper out on @biorxivpreprint We used oncogenic cell tagging🔬🐁to delineate the roles of HIF1 and HIF2 in the earliest events that follow VHL loss in the kidney Our findings show a potential for HIF2 inhibition to stop renal cancer before it starts 😮

Ludwig @UniofOxford's @joannaclima presented research at #AACR24 identifying in mice the early cancerous lesions caused by the loss of a pair of genes—Vhl and Prbm1—whose joint inactivation suffices to initiate a type of renal cancer.
Final day at #AACR24 - As always, a tour de force symposium from Samra @TurajlicLab on 🧬 chromosomal instability, cancer progression & treatment resistance, including some unpublished work from the lab led by @Sanroman_Fern & @stcshepherd.

Ludwig @UniofOxford’s @samvid_k & @joannaclima presented @ #AACR24 a study showing HIF1A & 2A, which govern responses to hypoxia, contribute differently to cellular adaptations to loss of the tumor suppressor Vhl in the kidney, an event that drives a type of renal cancer.

So, what next? Our study has highlighted a delayed pause in proliferation of positively selected PT Class A Vhl-null cells as potential bottleneck towards overt cancer. Knowing the mechanisms of this pause and its release (perhaps by other genetic events) will be exciting! 10/
