Today, we celebrate Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler (Feb 8, 1831–March 9, 1895), the 1st Black women to receive a Doctor of Medicine in the United States. She graduated in 1864 from the New England Female Medical College in Boston. Currently, only 2% of U.S. physicians are Black women.
