I don't want to feed trolls, but I also don't want them to go unchallenged. We can't let bullies take over politics, news, social media.
TODAY: Dozens of organizations, including SF immigrant rights, health, and criminal justice organizations submitted a letter demanding that District Attorney @BrookeJenkinsSF STOP colluding with the feds, and creating a fast-track to deportation in our city.

I'm a long-time supporter of @CompAndChoices and wish America had better conversations about what we consider a good death for ourselves and our loved ones. Stories like are so important. Thank you, @NualaBishari.
Update: I just drove by the block where officials arrested Castillo and threw away his belongings. Just 24 hours later, three new tents have already appeared.
Yesterday I watched San Francisco police officers detain Ramon Castillo, an unhoused man, for 20 minutes while Public Works employees discarded almost all of his belongings. Castillo was cited for illegal lodging and then released. He lost everything. (1/3)

Project 2025's ominous plan to "restore a culture of life in America"
While a party’s presumptive nominee withdrawing his presidential candidacy is an extraordinary occurrence, Americans can be confident this falls well within existing rules and that their election system continues to allow for a free and fair election. lwv.org/newsroom/press…

The data @LondonBreed is promoting only tells part of the story from S.F.’s new point-time-count. While the number of folks in tents and structures is down 13%, overall homelessness is up 7%. Vehicular is up 37% and family up 94%. Full picture here: sfchronicle.com/sf/article/sf-…
New data: San Francisco’s street homelessness population has reached its lowest level in 10 years. This means there are fewer people living in tents, structures, or directly on our streets than there have been since before 2015. While this is progress, we have a lot of work to…

60% of women in jails under local control have not been convicted of a crime and are awaiting trial. Is tearing legally innocent women away from their families really helping anyone?
Undermining the San Francisco Police Commission isn't new. I wish the public better understood what this commission does, why it matters, & how to insist on transparency & accountability. @LWVSF has this interview with Chair Elias from several years ago: youtu.be/xEIUS50fswI?si…

Cindy Elias, San Francisco Police Commissioner
Soon after San Francisco voters passed the mayor's ballot measure to weaken the Police Commission in March, the commission began repeatedly canceling meetings — raising questions about who is to blame. via @miss_elenius missionlocal.org/2024/05/sf-pol…
In a lengthy hearing Tuesday, supervisors learned about tumultuous conditions in SF jails: Deputies attacked, more mentally ill inmates, and frequent lockdowns. Several directed blame to the mayor’s office and bad policy-making. via @miss_elenius missionlocal.org/2024/05/what-w…
The joint budget plan also doesn’t include a plan to close more state prisons, missing an opportunity to permanently stop paying for empty prison beds and reduce wasteful spending. #CALeg
Raise taxes - Raise taxes - Raise taxes
However, the #CALeg budget plan doesn’t include meaningful proposals to equitably and permanently raise revenues to invest in communities over the long term. calbudgetcenter.org/news/a-califor…
