Standing Together for INQUA2027! As we continue our Pre-INQUA journey with the National Workshop on “Recent Developments in Quaternary Studies” at Gauhati University, Assam. Excited to engage in hands-on training of Quaternary microfossils in the heart of North-East India.
Had a wonderful session at Gauhati University as part of “Recent Developments in Quaternary Studies: Focus on N.E. India. Took a lecture, lab session, field collection, and a hands-on demonstration on diatoms”.
#newspeciesalert! 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐠𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩-𝐬𝐞𝐚 𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝!🦑 Researchers from @ICAR_CMFRI & @ASFAmrita identified 𝑻𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒊𝒂 𝒔𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒊 in the Arabian Sea. This "Indian octopus squid" was found at depths of 390 meters near Kollam. It has unique light…
Today is 141st birthday of Prof. SP Agharkar.
Do note - this is an amazing step by @theATBC and @Biotropica to make scientific publications accessible to more people. A small step, but I am sure it helps explain the work to local journalists and more... Hope the tier1 journals also show some ❤️ and soul of this kind...
Also, check out the abstract in Tamil by using the toggle option! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/bt… A small step towards making #science more accessible @vinita_gowda @TrEE_Lab #ScienceForAll #BirdResearch
At the Sangam near Nimmu, Ladakh, where the turquoise Zanskar meets the brown Indus. The colour contrast is pure geology! Zanskar’s glacial melt carries fine clay giving it a blue tint, while Indus brings darker silt from rocky valleys. #Ladakh #Geology #Rivers
Microscopic life at work! Diatom biofilm from a Ladakh stream, producing oxygen & forming the base of the food web. These tiny glass-walled algae quietly keep mountain streams alive.
Happy Deepavali: let's celebrate (laser) light! Did you know there is a connection b/w Baramati, Pune city & the first-ever CO2 lasers? Kumar Patel, the inventor of one of the most powerful lasers, was born in Baramati & did his BE at the College of Engineering, Pune! 1/n
It’s a treat to follow and learn physics from @Pavan_KumarGV . He—and there are few others too—are passionate about their undergraduate teaching and communicating science and its history through their blogs and podcasts. With a dozen like him, and in multiple languages too, the…
Today, in my optics class, I discussed optical forces due to momentum in electromagnetic waves. Towards the late 1800s, it was realized that light can impart momentum. This manifested as radiation pressure in the electromagnetic theory proposed by James Maxwell. Pyotr…
Out in the field at Ujani Reservoir! Collecting water and diatom samples to understand how this vast ecosystem is changing beneath the surface. #Diatoms #WaterQuality #Ecology

@karthickbala from @ari_pune talking about the importance of diatoms in freshwater ecosystems to participating ECRs @ITMERG1
Very happy and proud to see Dr. Mital Thacker’s outstanding PhD work on Myristica swamp diatoms getting this recognition. A proud moment for her and team @DiatomsofIndia
Dr. Mital Thacker @thacker_mital has been awarded the D.B. Chougule (Burlikar) Gold Medal by @PuneUniv for the best PhD thesis in Botany. Her work focused on the present and past diatoms of the unique Myristica swamp ecosystems of the Western Ghats with @karthickbala at…
We are looking for a PhD student to join our Evolutionary Ecology lab @ccmb_csir in January 2026; here are details - sites.google.com/view/jahnavijo…
Congratulations to @Vikeyanbu on submitting his PhD thesis! His work on #diatoms across the Western Ghats identified key determinants of their distribution and developed indices for water quality monitoring. A big step forward for #freshwater ecology and #biomonitoring in India.
Do you work with eDNA and want to learn the best practices for eDNA work? Join us and participate in the workshop @ITMERG1
