Brain-Computer Interfaces for Spinal Cord Injury
Today I built a special hat 🤠 It has a motor + propeller on it that spins faster the harder I focus! The motor's power is connected to my Raspberry Pi which is running a Node server I wrote that's actively capturing my brainwaves over WiFi via a @neurosity. Check it out ✨
In the first phase of the Drive By Thought program, German Zuniga will be able to accelerate the vehicle by thought. Brain waves will feed signals to control throttle movements. This will be accomplished with the use of a microchip implanted in the brain to steer & brake the car.
Thank you to @NASSspine for featuring our article “#braincomputerinterfaces for #spinalcordinjury: Technology Progressing Toward a Clinical Reality” on the cover this month. @kevin_cdavis #neurosurgery @umiamimedicine
Other good one is remote screen sharing. Often I’m in meetings where group presentations results in one person saying “next” quite a bit. Allowing others to control your screen removes the need for this audible.
Of all the meeting platforms we've used over the last 2 years, Zoom is the one I love most. Most of us think we know Zoom inside out. But we don't. Here are 7 Zoom hacks you probably haven't heard of, but you'll be glad you now know. 🧵👇
I just learned that the clipboard between MacOS and iOS is shared. I didn’t know I needed this.
We are teaming up with @Columbia's neural decoder MINT, which will be integrated into the MoveAgain software, enabling patients' thoughts to be translated more optimally into prosthetic movements: prn.to/3rCmOdb

I just spent 30 minutes filling out a summer camp clearance form for one of my patients. Let’s do the math for such time wasted: 10 million physicians x 30 minutes/day x 200 working days/year = 1 billion hours a year that are wasted without a more efficient medical record system.

A mark of intelligence I really respect is when a person in a room full of smart people stops everyone and says, “I don’t understand that. Can you explain?”
Whenever you use open source software (or any software, really) remember the little things you take for granted are the result of thousands of hours of development by thousands of random people you’ve never met
I have this well established practice: when the entire household goes to bed, I do curl development for two more hours. Every day, for 23 years and counting. Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. Whatever you do consistently for 23 years end up a lot.
