And, in reality, the raising of taxes is a complete non-starter, because talented people and service-based businesses that aren't tied to the land can up and leave.

agreed - i find it hard to avoid the conclusion that drastic cuts to public spending would be the inevitable consequence of either full fiscal autonomy or independence

I love when these guys make out we would be the only poor Northen European country, while we sit in a crumbling union that goes from one crisis to the next

perhaps you should read the piece?

GERS has no relevance to the economy of an independent Scotland. You know that, but persist with this fiction.

are you unable to read?

You've probably just defined Rachel Reeves' delayed budget this November after promising the electorate, no cuts, no borrowing & no main tax rises. Now, where is your defense of that? If Scots are facing these things anyway?

i suggest you read the piece and study the graph more closely - if you do you might realise that your tweet makes no sense

Or potentially do something amazing to attract inward investment much like Ireland or potentially re-take the English speaking route for finance in the EU. The possibilities are endless. Whatever happens, as Kevin says, it can't stay like this.

it only “can’t stay like this” if you reject the concept of political and economic solidarity across a united country 🤷🏻‍♂️

Or we could just charge for the oil, gas, electricity and water that we send elsewhere for free and maybe also include whisky that is exported through another countries ports in the reckoning too?

BINGO! where do we send oil, gas and electricity for free? how do you think the GB energy market works for heavens sake? and please in the name of all that’s good and holy don’t tell me you think export duties exist?

Option 1: Grow the economy Option 2: Cut spending Option 3: Increase taxes How come you missed option 1? Do you think it’s impossible? I don’t. It will depend on who gets into power of course, but Indy Scotland has a huge growth opportunity.

perhaps you need to look at the graph again and have a wee think?

Whatever happens it’s the decision taken by the Scottish people

do the problem is those other UK citizens in England, Wales and Northern Ireland?
