It’s worth spending a moment reading this thread from Will, it sets out really clearly the enormous challenge of decarbonising a predominantly agricultural landscape,

Welsh farmers are currently FURIOUS with the Welsh Government. They have some legitimate reasons to be p*ssed off but the WG are also in a really tricky position. This is complex but really super important & hidden within the debate is a wonderful opportunity. [THREAD]

Some incredible movements going on in the wheat market yesterday, this despite Ukrainian harvest forecasts collapsing. If your buying feed or growing crops it's time to start revising that farm budget.

After 23 years as Harper Adams Farm Manager I've moved into a new role developing projects & horizon scanning opportunities for the industry and university. It's been a privilege to steward the farm for a fifth of the universities existence. It remains a core pillar of Harper.

Semex announced today to have identified a new genomic test that allows to select for dairy methane. This will lead to 20-30% methane intensity reductions by 2050. Quite exciting, b/c this approach is scalable and agnostic to management type (grazing vs TMR).

After Paul Larmer announces breeding selection for lower methane emissions @semexUK now followed by @GHGGuru Looking forward to this #semexconf23

We are really pleased to have contributed shearlings from the @HarperAdamsUni flock to this great initiative

250 shearling ewes from eight different breeders in our group have now traveled to Ian Robertson’s for RamCompare to collect important maternal trait measurements. We are very excited to follow the progress of this project!

Carbon neutrality IS climate neutrality, but not every industry needs to be carbon neutral to be climate neutral. Industries that primarily emit methane, like 🐂🐄, don't have to get to net-zero carbon to no longer contribute to warming. @GHGGuru explains 👇

This really shocked me, I work and network with some incredible women, the idea that they are in some way not suitable to represent and contribute to the industry is just bizarre.

Many farm cash flows will not cope with massive price increases, the result be lower inputs and lower food production this year. Thanks to @neil_parish for highlighting the issue and hopefully starting a wider debate on the security of food production in the UK
