How I'm using SpeakingKing to get better at Korean pronunciation: 1. Ask AI to generate some sentences using a word I want to drill. 2. Paste them in. 3. Read each sentence out loud until I can score 100% at a decent reading speed. 4. (BONUS) Score 100% without looking.

The monolingual French mind canโt comprehend Canada
I'm so strict with this and always try to explain that I'm nowhere near native in any of them ๐ Also sorry but when people say they speak a language but aren't like B2/C1 level or better I'm secretly thinking, "really though? ๐"
When youโre asked โHow many languages do you actually know?โ, what is usually your criteria? What is your own definition of โknowingโ a language? #langtwt
When I worked in France I experienced the same thing. French lessons from school that were buried deep in my subconscious memory would suddenly pop into my head as I processed the language immersively. My brain was linking it all together faster than I could do myself by studying
I've seen people who seemed to make no progress in French even after months of immersion, then suddenly become fluent almost overnight. How would you describe the language learning curve #langtwt. Sometimes itโs just exponential.
Edtwitter, is there any truth to being "good at languages"? Do some people have a natural advantage? When I hear this, I say "if you work hard enough for long enough at something, most people can be good at anything "
#langtwt There are so many resources and apps for learning languages now.. but is there anything missing? What would you like to see? ๐
When creating flashcards, do you you separate cards for homonyms? The Korean word for "plural" is the same as the word for "revenge" (๋ณต์ - bok-su). Should that be one flashcard or two?

This is actually kinda true. At least for getting to upper intermediate level mandarin. If you invest heavily with learning characters and vocab, you can get pretty good without ever encountering complex grammar
Chinese, having none of those, is probably the easiest language in the world - grammar wise at least.
This is what we call in English "top bants"
Them: Immersion is the best way to learn a language! Me: Stop at the first word or grammar I don't know and spend 20 minutes learning about it, getting tired, and forgetting where I started
I've seen a lot of hot takes saying AI will mean people won't learn languages anymore. My hot take is that AI will have a negligible impact on the number of people who actually decide to learn languages. You've been able to get by with technology for a long time.
