When we care less about our people, our people become careless.

“I was having a bad day” is not an excuse for abusive behavior. It reflects a lack of self-control and a lack of concern for others. Intense emotions are a product of circumstance. Caring about how they affect others is a choice. Willpower requires the will to be respectful.

Bad bosses mistake visibility for value. They reward face time over impact. Good bosses know reputation isn't a proxy for results. They reward performance over presence. Great bosses know quality work depends on quality of life. They offer flexibility as a right, not a reward.

When people say "I can't change," what they often mean is "I don't want to change." The greatest barrier to adjusting behavior isn't a lack of skill. It's a lack of will. Motivation fuels capacity. Before you teach people how to alter their habits, they need to find the why.

Business case for not being a jerk: "People quit bosses, not jobs." Toxic supervisors & a bad work climate have a big impact on turnover. Salary only had a small-to-moderate effect, with non-monetary compensation, like training, having a bigger role for keeping employees around.

People who live in fear of others stealing their ideas generally don’t have many good ideas. Creativity is abundant. Execution is scarce. What prevails is not the best idea but the best implementation.

Much of what looks like laziness is actually fear. Most people can tolerate hard work; what holds them back is the fear of failure or rejection. It helps to separate results from ego. Your performance might fail, your work might get rejected, but they're only a snapshot of you.

Was in DC for the baseball game tonight and had to swing by and check out the old stadium. If your careful you might see the stampede coming, catch the HS kids sitting on the track, or see the logo all lit up after a TD on the scoreboard! A great home for many years! #tradition

Just saw a job ad for HR pro - 15 years experience & degree needed - $14-18/hour. Honestly, I want to tell anyone applying to just take a job at target - you’ll likely make more when you factor in the employee discount and won’t have to deal w/a company that thinks $14 is ok.

If you voted, marched, shared a resource, checked on someone, had a tough conversation, listened, empathized, and showed compassion today then you just made progress. Even a little goes a long way. We have to unite and keep moving forward.
