How does it compare with xz and 7z?

it doesn't beat arithmetic packers such as 7z LZMA in packing ratio. But arithmetic coding is too slow at decoding on a 68k for 64KiB or more demos. (and if you want nice arithmetic coding, better use STrinkler)

For sure, but you know me - always on the quest for the smallest possible size, to save filesystem space; if that means decompressing for a long time, that's quite alright.

If nobody beats me to it, when I'm retired, I'll modify xz or p7zip to produce binary executables on AmigaDOS, maybe even the ST.
