I think if there’s any good news in women’s health right now, it’s that in the long absence of funding or prioritization, we were building our own independent companies and funding streams that can survive outside of traditional sources of research dollars. So we are ready.

Even in a country where reproductive rights are being skewered, I think the more horrifying threat to women’s health is the appallingly low reimbursement for OB/Gyn services. People don’t realize how fast hospitals are dropping Obstetrics and sidelining Gynecology.
There should be public outrage, frankly, over the fact that OB/GYN departments receive only 1% of NIH research funding. OB/GYN and our specialties provide the majority of care and surgery women receive in a lifetime, but ONE PERCENT of the research dollars. This is a crisis.
