Have you ever had your OpenAI API calls fail, only to check the dashboard and find that the status is green? It's probably because the API is chronically slow, but there's no way to check that. An indie dev made a site for this, that no one knows about: openai-status.llm-utils.org

I know an engineer who deleted his X account, because the AI hype was causing him to lose dignity. Nicest guy ever. He was constantly being told his cs degree and YOE were useless, because a 16 y/o just killed SWE. So he took a break. I think this is a totally valid response.

Little industry secret: when I worked at HopDrive (venture-backed startup) we were able to poach a lot of Uber drivers who hated talking to passengers, and wanted to drive empty cars! They also didn't like having people in their personal car, as it violated their "private space"

Most people haven't experienced @Waymo yet. It will soon take over our cities. I spent a week riding and talking to avid users. Why Waymo already has a diehard fanbase (and you'll soon be one of them!) 🧵 1/4

This research by @AnthropicAI is going ultra-viral right now. It shows that when confronted with shutting down, EVERY model chose to blackmail, and half even chose to kill. It's sparking widespread alarmism and claims that AI is inherently evil. But here's why the naysayers are…

Every human on the planet should see this video. youtube.com/watch?v=f9HwA5… Not hype. Not clickbait. Real, properly controlled research. When confronted with shutting down, EVERY model chose to blackmail. Half the time, they chose to kill. But not when they thought humans…

There's a secret forum for big tech employees. It's a safe haven for people to ask for advice on stuff they can't talk about with friends and family. Should this SWE go to OpenAI or Anthropic?

>go to college for 4 years to get a cs degree >intern every summer >work in big tech for 2 years after graduating >coding since age 12 Company: how many years of experience do you have (excluding internships)? Me: 2

The problem with Jevons Paradox is that while automation creates more jobs than it destroys, workers have to re-skill to be able to do the new jobs. If AI gets rid of 10k animators and creates 20k data center technician jobs, it’s not like the technician jobs are available to…

TIL (the hard way) that you can have a negative OpenAI balance. Their billing infrastructure is so slow that you can make a bunch of API calls before they realize you're broke. Makes me wonder if compute will become its own currency, and OAI will start issuing credit cards.

Since this blew up- @robotaxi's cutthroat strategy for market domination: • win on unit economics, at the cost of UX • win on data + distribution • use vision-based sensors (lower maintenance) Almost certainly beats Waymo. Uber v. Lyft shows that ppl prefer affordable rides.

Just spent 10 minutes canceling a toothbrush subscription: >Are you sure? You’ll lose $0.40 credits >10% off? >Ok you got us haha…15%? >At least tell us why?! Is this diabolical or brilliant?

Got lunch with @findporpoise, who just raised $500k to recruit an army of photographers for @photosonchain The idea is to grow a catalog of verified (non AI) photos, and license it to AI labs for training, so that LLMs won't generate images of people with 3 hands. Very bullish!
