When COVID hospitalizations are 6X higher now than the lowest point of the pandemic. When COVID still appears to be the #1 illness-related cause of hospitalizations. When COVID can harm vulnerable and frail patients…why are some hospitals are dropping mask mandates...now?
Statement on masking in healthcare: "While I believe that we should be taking public health measures to protect marginalized and vulnerable people in all settings, healthcare, of all places, should prioritize the health of medically vulnerable people." bchumanrights.ca/news/human-rig…

This.
The best way to rapidly reduce the surgical backlog is to better utilize the public ORs we already have.

My final article of the year is live NOW on my COVID-focused Substack, The Gauntlet. The Blind Spot discusses the eerie disappearance of the pandemic from the public eye, as its cascading consequences continue to rain on the parade of normalcy thegauntlet.substack.com/p/the-blind-sp…
We should dictate that people must wear masks in places where people have to be: • Public Transportation • Schools • Work • Grocery Stores • Doctors' Offices, Hospitals & Pharmacies • Post Offices & Other Government Services • Polls As a community we must protect all.
Professor @maxwellsmith Western U. Bioethicist and Public Health Expert is pointing the finger at the lack of information and public health messaging. Rightly he raises the tragedy with the current public health approach:
Professor named to Order of Canada edmonton.ctvnews.ca/edmonton-profe… by @KarynMulcahy @ctvedmonton True story. When I heard I was "in a crappy [LA] coffee shop in a strip mall after an evening where people were yelling at me about misinformation. I was kind of at the end of my rope...”
If you’ve been infected w #COVID despite using layered precautions, it’s a failure from our leaders Leaving health decisions to personal choice weakens the public’s health Clean air, 💉, 😷, & tests should be ubiquitous. This is what public health means in the midst of a pandemic
Good points in this piece, but the author is too kind to conference organizers. “The organizers could have made changes to better protect attendees, if they had known they had a problem in the first place.” Have conference organizers not heard of COVID? nature.com/articles/d4158…

Track post-conference COVID infections
Nature - Organizers should evaluate the risks of COVID-19 infections at conferences and communicate those to attendees, says James Kirchner.
Go Althia!!! She's absolutely right. The provinces can't post surpluses and cry poor on health care!
The spread of RSV and flu among babies and children creates significant pressures on our hospitals, while impacting other areas of paediatric care. After nearly three years in a pandemic, we all know how to help slow the spread of infections, so let’s do it. ⬇️
RSV & flu are spreading. Everyone in Ont. has a role to play in protecting babies/children & slowing the spread of infections. Pls wear a mask in crowded indoor spaces, adhere to public health guidance such as handwashing & get your flu & COVID shot. If you're sick pls stay home.
Any recommendations on HEPA air purifiers to filter our covid? My husband is flying to a large conference in January. Looking for ways to reduce risk upon his return for my 16 yo daughter, who is vulnerable (liver transplant recipient), & the rest of my family.
Zero tents is not a zero homelessness policy. Cannot keep punishing people in poverty.
Happening at Allen Gardens in Toronto RIGHT NOW. City workers trashing perfectly good sleeping bags and tents, intentionally breaking tent poles so they can't be reused, knowing full well they will turn away another 200+ people from shelter spaces today and tonight.
