The Twitter exodus has started, but maybe it should have started long ago? Our new study in @NatureComms shows that political abuse on X is a global, widespread, and cross-partisan phenomenon nature.com/articles/s4146…

I think we have to realize that we have entered a new phase (perhaps not so new in some countries) that has moved from collateral damage from the attention economy to active manipulation of public discourse....
Together with @MarkAndrejevic we have just published compelling evidence that @elonmusk’s posts are being algorithmically boosted. Read about it in this article, just published: theconversation.com/tech-billionai…
Can we just ditch the delusion that social media platforms are “neutral” carriers? One wonders how much Musk stacked the information war in his favour on this platform… but then no one seems to care because (a) it’s obvious and (b) what can you do

@EU_Commission launched recently a public consultation on the draft delegated act on access to online platform data for vetted researchers under the #DigitalServicesAct (#DSA). I'm attaching highlights and comments of @Lorenz_Spreen, which include a few of my own replies.👇
I went a bit through the draft of the delegated act, some main points I found interesting as a researcher are highlighted in the thread below (overall I am pleased that several suggestions from the consultation seem to have found their way in) 1/10:

Please read this. It's literally been 8 years in the writing. The first wave of tech disruption of democracy 2016-2024 is over. What starts now is something much, much worse: the age of information chaos. 1/ theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
I will now try out the other place and see if the old Twitter vibes can be rebuild 🦋 Let us connect, if you are there too
