Due to the fact my body hates any medication and will summon up all the side effects I often get left with paracetamol and it's not too happy with that either!! #lupus #medications #lupustrust

🇮🇸 Spotlight on Lupus Iceland! At our #LupusConvention, Lupus Iceland's poster showed why patient orgs are essential: they identify unmet needs & work towards practical solutions. Did you know they import sun protection products, like hats & sunscreen, not sold in Iceland? 😍
Even though we make plans lupus is extremely unpredictable changing from day to day or even hour to hour which makes planning anything at all very difficult. We have to learn to be flexible and adapt to the ever-changing nature of our condition, but it's not easy. #lupus
Very true, no matter what we say or do we just can't win.🫤 #chronicpain #autominnunedisease #invisibleillness #chronicillness #lupus #lupustrust #lupusawareness #spoonfulofchronic
As Lupus Awareness Month comes to a close here's a little reminder. If you have a loved one/friend/colleague etc who has lupus please don't be afraid to ask them questions. If you don't want to do that but want to learn more please go to our website: lupus.org.uk
Tumid lupus erythematosus (TLE) is a rare photosensitive sub type of cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE). It causes a person to develop red or violet smooth raised lesions on their skin that can resemble urticaria (hives). For more information: lupus.org.uk/tumid-lupus-er… #Lupus
Rhupus Syndrome is a rare condition where patients exhibit symptoms of both rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and its prevalence is estimated to be around 0.09%. For more information: lupus.org.uk/rhupus-syndrome #lupus #rhupus
Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) is more prevalent in people with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) compared to the general population although whether this is directly due to lupus has yet to be established. #lupusawarenessmonth #lupustrust #Lupus
Even though research has yet to confirm whether this is directly due to lupus, it can be associated with joint hypermobility. Whilst not all people with lupus experience this, studies suggest a higher prevalence of joint laxity (or hypermobility) with SLE. #lupus #hypermobility
Patients with lupus often experience other autoimmune conditions simultaneously, a phenomenon known as overlap disease. This can include other connective tissue diseases like rheumatoid arthritis or scleroderma. #lupusawarenessmonth #lupus #lupustrust
Lupus can cause various nail changes, including thinning, thickening, pitting, discoloration, as well as inflammation & visible blood vessels around the nails and can even cause nails to crack or fall off, or lead to discolored nails and swelling around the nail bed. #Lupus
This is where pressure on a nerve in your wrist causes pain, numbness, tingling or weakness in your hand, fingers or arm. With lupus, the body's immune system abnormally attacks its own tissue causing widespread inflammation which can affect the carpal tunnel of the hand. #Lupus
Years ago I got a feeling like insects were crawling on my leg, I’d look down expecting to see something but there was nothing there. It happened over & over & I couldn’t work out what it was. It’s called Paresthesia, a form of tactile hallucination called formication. #Lupus
In rare cases, lupus & its treatments can cause a loss of blood supply to bone, leading to avascular necrosis - the death of bone tissue caused by a lack of blood supply. Without a supply of blood, the affected bone weakens, leading to tiny fractures and eventual collapse. #lupus
This is a common symptom but as patients don’t realise lupus can cause it I thought I’d include it. Difficulty tolerating heat can be a symptom of lupus as it affects the body’s ability to regulate its temperature. Heat can also trigger flares. #lupus #heat
Lupus patients may experience unusually large & widespread bites, they can sometimes provoke more serious symptoms like fever. Awareness of potential triggers like insect bites & using preventive measures are crucial for effectively managing lupus and reducing the risk of flares.
Erythromelalgia is a rare condition that can be associated with SLE. It manifests as intense burning pain, usually in the feet but sometimes the hands, ears or face, redness of the skin in the affected area, increased skin temperature, where the skin feels warm to the touch.
Petechiae, small red or purple spots under the skin, can be a symptom of lupus, particularly when associated with low platelet counts. These spots result from bleeding under the skin & in lupus, they often appear due to the disease's impact on blood clotting. #lupusawarenessmonth
