Agree. So if we are saying JAG Courses for upper, lower, bleeds, ENTS & possibly polypectomy need to be mandated how do trainees afford them? Are we pricing some trainees out of Gastroenterology training? #FGDebate
To be controversial…. Does every gastroenterology consultant need to be able to deal with acute GI bleeding? We allow trainees to CCT without colonoscopy now. Perhaps in future we will have gastroenterologists who do NO endoscopy at all and specialise in other areas? #FGDEBATE
GI bleeding continues to have a high mortality. Many trainees get little training in the acute situation, particularly out of hours. Formal training and certification will prepare trainees for this as consultants #FGDebate

With so much focus on “front door” medicine, many West of Scotland Gastro trainees attend <40% of allocated training sessions (endoscopy, clinic, consultant WRs etc) due to unrelenting GIM “training” (ie service provision). @DoctorFitz et al sum up challenges and offer solutions
