I have spotted something sneaky in the UK Spending Review. The plan to increase Council Tax by 5% per annum will not be counted by the official inflation measure called CPI. Thus it will not be in (subtract) from GDP either. It's magic!

The last time US tax collection had been this high was in April 2024 - US S&P500 usually finds it harder to rally until after the tax drain. Unless spending goes through the roof - MMT shows that US dollars out of the system is problematic for the US economy.
Modern Monetary Theory describes the system, not drives the system. Take $2 trl out of the system and @elonmusk will kill US GDP all else being equal
MMT describes how removing $ from the system can put pressure on the S&P500 - from 20th Dec Taxes have been rising. Destroying US dollars.
