NEW: Nearly 98% of early-career researchers at NIH voted to form a union - the biggest federal union to form in more than a decade. @nihfellowsunite, representing 5,000+ fellows, is calling for better pay and working conditions. Read more in @Nature: nature.com/articles/d4158…

We won our union! We are the largest union of federal employees to form in more than a decade, and the first union of Fellows ever at a federal research facility. We’ve made history together. 💪

Wow!! Super cool!! Sex differences in dopaminergic projections from VTA to BLA!

Very excited that @manion_tc could share some of his dissertation data with the world! Kudos to Kuan Wang for providing co-mentorship and @umdnacs for seeding this collaboration!

New! subtle but crucial structural connectivity differences between sexes (la petite difference 😎) in VTA-Amyg projections. Underlie behavior? pathology? Elegant, careful science from @DrGlasper and team bsd.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

Maximum price gouging will always be pharma’s interest. We need to empower public research with full funding and better working conditions for researchers to make healing accessible to all.

NEW: The CEO of Novartis, the world’s 4th largest pharma company, said the company will push legislation to limit the govt’s ability to negotiate drug prices. “We can make it happen,” he told investors today. “That's going to be our total focus as a sector in the U.S.”

Public investments in health should be accessible by the public! The Moderna-NIH COVID-19 vaccine was researched in large part by federal workers at the NIH, including Fellows like us fighting for our union.

Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine discovery was funded by the taxpayers of this country. It costs Moderna about $2 to produce that vaccine. They now want to charge Americans over $100 a dose for that vaccine. That is absurd.

Fellows do the majority of the research at the NIH; it's time for our working conditions to reflect our crucial contributions!

Our colleagues at UMD don't currently have the right to form a union, but there is a bill being introduced this year to fix that. Please sign this petition in support for high ed collective bargaining rights in the University System of Maryland!

First! We launched our petition for collective bargaining rights & living wages for **all** MD higher-ed workers; we will submit this to show support for our CBR bill, so please sign & share—we want to show as many GAs and Marylanders support as possible actionnetwork.org/petitions/supp…

Visiting Fellows, who come to the NIH from outside the U.S. to do research work on temporary visas, face extra roadblocks to securing stable work. With a union, Visiting Fellows can bargain for better job security and more stable working conditions!

This is such an embarrassing take

70% of graduate students work more than 40 hours per week & 68% have difficulty maintaining a good work–life balance. Nearly half (45%) of scientists across all career stages report signs of burnout and overwork. Time-management tools may be able to help. go.nature.com/3WrI2af

Dear Faculty, trying to persuade grad students and postdocs how to vote on a union contract is inappropriate. It doesn't matter if you are pro-union, it doesn't matter what your discipline is, it doesn't matter if your intentions are good. Just don't.

Starbucks workers are DOUBLING DOWN. Starting today, over 1,000 baristas are walking out on a THREE DAY STRIKE, making this the longest collective action of our campaign yet. #DoubleDownStrike

This has been a long time in the works, and it's very much needed. Improving working conditions for fellows of all types will improve the quality of science at the NIH!
