A really important article about the mortality post ‘catch and release’ in the recreational UK tuna fishery. For years we’ve been told it was insignificant - but the death of one in five hooked and released tuna is shocking.
Climate change has brought bluefin tuna back to UK seas and recreational and commercial fishing is taking place. My latest article in Fishing News is now online fishingnews.co.uk/features/bluef….
This is an important film. Congratulations to@abrahamjoffe instagram.com/reel/DOG-2DAiE… #tradesecretfilm

Wonderful to see so many Manx shearwaters flying past Gurnards Head this morning. At their peak c. 500/min ie 30,000 /hr.
Wonderful evening spent in the presence of beavers and @Skentelbery for #CornwallWildlifeTrust’s @CornwallBeaver project. If we can do it for choughs, we can do it for beavers. #bringthemback
Didn’t see much for a mile this morning, then six 6 spot burnets appeared on a tiny clump of thrift!
Wonderful to see a small pearl-bordered fritillary this morning. They are becoming increasingly rare. Their larvae feed on violets and we’ve had swathes of them this spring, so hoping to see more of these wonderful butterflies next year.
I was fortunate to attend the royal premier of OCEAN for which @jaccadeeble was one of the u/w cinematographers. It is the most important film I’ve seen. It is not too late to save our oceans - the solution is disarmingly simple. I urge everyone to go and see the film.
A wonderful soft mizzly start to the day - whitethroats, wrens, sedge warblers and choughs.
Somewhere out there in the murk and mizzle, a tiny grasshopper warbler has just flown in from Senegal. #migrantlandfall #grasshopperwarbler
Interested to see this flock of choughs recently ( about 30 in total). I would have expected most to have paired up by now - perhaps these are last year’s youngsters. If so, a good sign.
1st swallow of the year for me 22/3/25 - battling a northerly heading for Zennor.
Happy New Year. If I have learned anything in the past 12 months it is: hold your loved ones tight, take nothing for granted, show gratitude, be kind.
It’s lovely to have this piece about Vicky in today’s @thetimes thetimes.com/article/f96cc3…
There’s a tribute to Vicky today on BBC R4’s The Last Word at 4pm bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…
Farewell to my love and partner of over 40 years. The end was peaceful and at home. The NHS palliative care and support was excellent. Gratitude.
