You can also count the number of long “finger feathers” (primaries). While both crows and ravens each have ten, on crows feathers 9-5 are typically quite long and obvious while on ravens feather # 5 is noticeably shorter. So crows looks to have 5 fingers while ravens only have 4.

Update on my first sampling attempt: looks like the rock I drilled was too crumbly and broke into small fragments/powder, instead of producing an intact core. Pushing ahead to find my next target, expected to be more like rocks we cored on Earth. More: go.nasa.gov/3xDY8ka
