The argument about a brand new car having to have the cost of new tyres and repairs paid for by the taxpayer is a non-starter. How many brand new cars suddenly need a repair or tyres changing in the 1st 3 years? Not many, if any. Nor do they need an MOT. It costs nothing extra!
A member of the Green Party had a great point on @bbc5live about council tax still using value data from the 90's to tax properties. That's insane, values have sky rocketed, But... could people afford to pay higher council tax in this economy? A flat tax would be much better.
How many people, receiving disability benefits or not, can afford a down payment for a standard car, suitable for a small family? The motability scheme is basically a guarantee to Loan a car, not buy it, not keep it after 3 years, just to lease. Plus you lose monthly payment.
I see no point in removing high value cars from the Motability scheme. In order to get one of them, you have to pay a Massive premium, and the full PIP is taken to cover it, the same amount as a lesser brand car. The same tax payer support won't change. It's deflection tactics.
