Thatch and slate. A re-ridge we did a couple of years ago. The main part of the ridge was straw and we used sedge as a saddle to go over the top.#Thatching.
Michal (nearest camera), Daniel and Rafal on our latest project in #Cheshire. With the onset of wetter weather we only strip in sections that can be quickly thatched in so as not to leave too much roof exposed to the elements… #Thatching.

When l was at Primary school and into my teens we used to spend many family holidays visiting relatives on the Dutch island of Schiermonnikoog where there are many thatched houses. I could never have guessed that years later l would become a Thatcher. #Thatching.
Just came across these 2 photos which illustrate well how not removing previous layers of thatch can lead to a great & unnecessary thickness especially at the ridge.In this case 1.75metres! Also shows how close the ridge line was to the top of this chimney!
