Spending time learning/reading about software development is an essential aspect of being a software developer. If all you do is code, no matter how well you code, you'll be mediocre at best. Allocate time for learning as a normal work activity. It's part of the dev process.

A brave individual, but is he alone in using videogame music for focus? I was an early adopter of white noise & ambient tone generators for programming solo. Essential for my C++ days 😄

@matt_p_cannon The soundtrack for burning rubber was unreal, I was 5 when my dad got an Amstrad out of a skip and fixed it for me.

Many of the software engineers I talked to told me that they practice TDD out of guilt. That's not right, we need a different way to think about TDD. I've been practising TDD for almost a decade, here's how I currently think about it:

30 years ago we were working on SNES 'Spider-Man and the X-Men in Arcade's Revenge'. We had very little time for this project and had 3 very experienced coders on-board to get it done. Here's a FAX from production at Acclaim to give you a flavour of the pressure we were under 1/2

Do yourself a favor. If you have a domain model, don't attempt to manage message deduplication and sequence using Deduplicator and Resequencer patterns. Model the uncertainty. If you don't have a domain model, fix that. youtube.com/watch?v=uhZx7P…

Inspired by Bank of Georgia, I decided to add "terms of use" to my open source projects. 🇺🇦 Obviously this will not deter bad actors, but at least it gives me a sense of moral satisfaction. Any other OSS maintainers want to do something similar?

Never heard the term, "Porky decisiveness", until today.

"Agile" on LinkedIn and Twitter is just a never-ending rant from folks believing others are doing their jobs wrong.

Did you see Boris?

This is like the conversation that would come if the bloke in @DeanFriedman's Lucky Stars saw Lisa again. Nadine here stars as the bloke. "Did you see Boris? Yes I saw Boris - is that why you're angry? I wasn't angry.." 1/2
