The FT would do well to consider that Japan is a democracy and that Takaichi owes this honesty to the electorate.

Taiwan is not Trump’s (or America’s) to hand over.
As I’ve been warning, contours of a grand strategic bargain emerge in US-China negotiations: Trump gets a trade deal. Xi gets downgraded US commitment to Taiwan, i.e. Trump “opposes” island’s independence. It’s a slippery slope to handing over Taiwan. wsj.com/world/china/tr…

By any measure, the case for Taiwan statehood is far more compelling than that for Palestinian statehood.
