Do you feel like this is different in other research fields? Perhaps it’s a sign that we can’t be looking at ML as a single field anymore and need to just focus on a specific subfield. Like medical researchers have rather niche focus topics, not curing all of cancer.

Everyone who works at a health plan should spend 3 months in the prior authorization call center. Doesn’t matter if you’re in marketing, strategy, or IT. Everyone should understand how painful a process it is.
Excellent thread - perfectly summarizes many of the issues surrounding generative AI. I agree that the genie is out of the bottle.
I feel very conflicted about the Stable Diffusion open source release.
I think many people don't realize how big the US economy is. Ukraine’s GDP is almost exactly equal to the combined GDP of Connecticut’s Hartford & Fairfield counties. Russia's is equal to the sum of LA county, San Diego county, Orange county, & Santa Clara county in California.
Hey #AIart community! Happy to finally launch my new side project, Dallelist - a new chrome extension that will help you write better prompts, using a list of artists, mediums, modifiers and more, added straight into DALL-E. #dalle2 Download here: bit.ly/3qflXh3
Great thread - interesting how the AI processes the prompt fragments and amalgamates them together.
The fact that all this visual splendor is compressed in just 4Gb of neural network weights totally blows my mind. Call it compression, call it emergence, it's just 🤯🤯 Getting bored by a StyleGAN model after looking at samples for 20 minutes seems like a very distant past now..
In a week, years happen. Machine Learning has gone through a few of these happening “weeks”. If you leave an undergrad or a masters program with an ML 101 under your belt (many still don’t), you will be thoroughly unprepared for the future. ML 101 should be a high school class.
Very cool - tools already popping up to help optimize prompts. @Omorfiamorphism - seen this?
explore millions of #stablediffusion prompts and store them in your own collections. our new tool is out! here's how it works ✨👇 krea.ai
Very interesting ideas here. It fascinates me how quickly this space is evolving, and yet we are still far from mainstream. Keep up the excellent work - I will be interested in following your results.
Given the speed of #stablediffusion 's generation, automated image/prompt curation is becoming a necessity. I've been using @RiversHaveWings aesthetics rating model to build an evolutionary algorithm that evolves a random prompt population to become more aesthetic. 1/x

Stable diffusion prompt: "an old man sips his coffee, photorealistic, closeup", ran for about 30 seconds - This is going to change so many things. #stabilityAI
This is amazing stuff. The rules have not yet been conceived for the world these tools and models will create.
Delighted to announce the public open source release of #StableDiffusion! Please see our release post and retweet! stability.ai/blog/stable-di… Proud of everyone involved in releasing this tech that is the first of a series of models to activate the creative potential of humanity
Great analysis - this could be a very consequential move, more so than prior moves by big tech
Thanks @KYWeise for the interview on Amazon's health ambitions: it's all about the customer experience. Where I see them going is the "front door" for patients to access care. nytimes.com/2022/07/21/bus… (also feat. the inimitable @AaronNeinstein)
This is definitely one of the more insightful essays I have read in a long time. It brings together multiple threads that have troubled me about the direction of our culture and our country (U.S. though I suspect broader applicability). I highly recommend the read.
This piece by Jonathan Haidt is thoughtful, beautifully written, and important. Very worth the long read. theatlantic.com/magazine/archi…

Excellent take - definitely opened my eyes a bit to the real challenges.
I've now been asked multiple times for my take on Elon's offer for Twitter. So fine, this is what I think about that. I will assume the takeover succeeds, and he takes Twitter private. (I have little knowledge/insight into how actual takeover battles work or play out) (long 🧵)
Contributing to an open source project is what really helped me in my early career and brought me to success. Glad to see people are hosting events to share their experience and how you can get into it too :) I need to join more Twitter Spaces!
