When I joined, I spent a weekend re-writing one of our image pipelines in C. It saved more than 8 seconds per request. Python is production-capable, but production-capable is the floor, not the ceiling.

OpenAI runs Python in production in ways that go against all best practices and conventions you can imagine, but yeah bro Python is not production capable.

daily reminder that dependencies should be checked in as source the age of built-time dependency resolution is over, the time of a properly managed /lib folder has come (again)

so apparently sonatype .org is down and that broke some of our gradle maven builds that need to look up package versions. I assume part of the attack stuff going on? friggin java.

things devs HATE: - writing tests - fixing tests - ai sucking at writing tests - failing tests - passing tests - using console.log - not using console.log - testing

I‘ve been eagerly awaiting this video to be released! @azmreece packed so much information into it, that I need to re-watch his talk a few more times times:

.@azmreece's talk it out! A deep, technical look into concrete methods for reducing layers of indirection, memory accesses, and showing his Xar data-structure: A simple, pointer-stable, CPU-friendly, growable array. youtu.be/i-h95QIGchY

“Computer science is not science - it was a fake field for people who find electrical engineering or maths too hard.” - Peter Thiel

This false nomenclature of “researcher” and “engineer”, which is a thinly-masked way of describing a two-tier engineering system, is being deleted from @xAI today. There are only engineers. Researcher is a relic term from academia.
