Ladies and gentlemen, we did it. SB 79 has been signed.

Lots of excitement over SB 79—understandably. I would add, every single bill California YIMBY sent to the governor was signed today. gov.ca.gov/2025/10/10/gov…

AB 253 will empower applicants to hire third-party permit reviewers when cities drag their feet on small-scale residential projects, which will help to clear out the log jam in permitting offices. cayimby.org/legislation/ab…

AB 1308 established 14-day inspection shot clock for those same sorts of small-scale residential projects—a major source of needless delays. Blowing passed it will be an HAA violation. cayimby.org/legislation/ab…

AB 1154 will expand protections for JADUs—namely, by removing the owner-occupancy mandate. This is going to scale up California's ADU renaissance even further. cayimby.org/legislation/ab…

AB 1061 ends the total prohibition on SB 9 projects in historic districts, which will cut back on a lot of historic preservation abuse, while still protecting genuine landmarks. cayimby.org/legislation/ab…

SB 9 (2025, not 2021!) will beef up state oversight over ADU law, ensuring that cities can't impose arbitrary and illegal standards. cayimby.org/legislation/20…

And AB 413 will require HCD to translate key materials into common major languages in California—helpful for developers in large immigrant communities. This idea originated with @alfredtwu_act. cayimby.org/legislation/ab…

In addition to these bills, it looks like the governor signed all of the Fast Track Housing Package bills that made it to his desk. This is a package of individually small bills that fix a lot of problems with building housing in California. cayimby.org/fast-track-hou…

Our focus now turns to (a) implementation and (b) reform in 2026, specifically reducing costs and expanding financing to ensure that projects pencil. California YIMBY not in the business of passing bills—we're in the business of ending the housing crisis. cayimby.org/waystogive/

It takes a community to pass a bill, but I would like to highlight my amazing team, without whom this would not be possible. Jordan Panana Carbajal was the legislative lead on all of our assembly bills and our senate bills other than SB 79. He's a bill passing machine!

Brooke Pritchard was the legislative lead on SB 79—a career defining victory from an awesome staffer. Here she is hamming it up with some of the SB 79 team.

Emily Jones led the campaign on our end, driving hundreds of emails and calls along with our amazing digital and organizing teams, and generally keeping the ship afloat. Here she is filling in for Joe Biden in a photo we staged during committee season.

Aaron Eckhouse was the policy lead on SB 79. (And before that, the CEQA infill exemption.) He burned a lot of midnight oil on both. He's a walking encyclopedia of California housing policy and will now lead on implementation. Overwhelming respect for him.

Max Dubler was the policy lead on our ADU and historic preservation work this year. He really stepped up and did a lot of policy on top of microblogging! I think a few of you may already know him?

Ed Mendoza, another microblogging celebrity, was lead on our post-entitlement bills. (He also worked on a lot of building code stuff that happened behind the scenes.) No film photos of him, tragically, so here's a photo I took at one of our team retreats.

California YIMBY works with a few lobbyists, but this year I worked most closely with the amazing Sosan Madanat of W Strategies, who was also a lead on SB 79. She and I also worked together on SB 684-1123. A lobbying rockstar!

Anyway, that's my team—the people whose work I feel a special obligation to celebrate. It took the whole California YIMBY team fully mobilizing to pass this thing!

And that's just California YIMBY—none of this happens without an amazing author, great legislative staff, and co-sponsors who worked just as hard! I'll always cherish the work we did! /thread

LETS GOOOOOO BROOOO. Thanks for all your work on this

Congratulations

Huge win! Eventually ride hailing powered by self driving cars makes everywhere a transit stop

There goes the suburbs And with it- the middle class. Congrats CA

You guys are going to turn CA into a dense hellhole shanty town 😂.

idiotic people with tiny brains ruining everything because they're poor, nice one commie

My heart has been in my throat. Fantastic.

mmmm nimby tears 😋 Another huge win for California

I RENOUNCE BEING THE JOKER

Jesus what was the deal here? Just trying to remind YIMBYs not to take him for granted? Trying to make the NIMBYS feel heard? Maybe he actually briefly fell for the bad faith lies about it interfering with fire rebuild, hence the paragraph countering those?

Oh thank god bruh that took way too long

Pacific palisades now to be multistory multifamily section 8 housing

Every YIMBY is a ghoul who's either homosexual or comes across as homosexual.

For the ecstatic folks in this thread, did you grew up in a house or shitty cramped apartment building? It may be hard for some of you privileged people to understand, but living your entire life in an apartment is NOT want most US working class folks want if they can help it.

ngl i was a little blackpilled on California's ability to get more housing. this give me hope congrats 🎉🎉🎉

Keep on winning, im not tired yet!!! Woooohooooo!!!!
